I had my senior prom over a week ago now, and over the past few years I've learned what to do and not to do when communicating your vision with your stylist. These tips can even be applied when you go to visit your hair dresser for a regular trim, and especially formal events when you may wish to have your hair and makeup done by a professional.
Preparing for your appointment
Prom... the epitome of high school prestige and glam. My senior prom was this past weekend and I had a blast, even without a date. Honestly, going with a group of friends probably costs less and is more enjoyable. Let's get on to my tips for prom or school dance pictures...
1.) Decide with group on a specific time. Keep in mind the times of your dance, grand march (if you're attending that), and dinner. Remember earlier is better! You don't want to be behind schedule. From experience, I recommend scheduling about two hours for your personal pictures and group pictures at the location.
2.) Location, location, location. Pick a location for pictures that suites the size of your group. Try to pick a location that won't have a lot of other groups around because you don't want it to be crowded! In the past I've had pictures for school dances in locations such as: parks, golf club community, backyards with interesting landscaping, hotels. Think of a "Plan B" in case of a rainy day! Your "Plan B" could be inside a country club, someone's large home, a hotel, a museum, etc.
3.) Schedule your hair and makeup appointments (or plan on doing that yourself accordingly) so that you'll be done with more than enough time before pictures. Again, you don't want to be rushed.
4.) Coordinate your ride to the pictures location (and everywhere else that night- like the dance, etc.) ahead of time. If you have a date, are you riding together? Does your group want a party bus, limo, etc? Is the cost okay with everyone? Will you save the cost and drive yourselves?
5.) Invite everyone's parents to take pictures because you have the best chance of having at least one shot of each pose turning out because multiple people will taking pictures on different cameras. Have some people use DSLR, nice cameras, if they have them. Have others use their phones so you can post some on social media that day if you wish. *To me, hiring a professional photographer is an unnecessarily cost, but that choice is up to you and your group! Have fun with it.
6.) Make an iPhone photo sharing album to your group can exchange pictures without a hitch. I would strongly recommend doing this, it's really easy!
7.) You'll want pictures of just you + ones of just you and your date (if you have one) to look back on later, so ask you parents to take those.
8.) If it's your thing, use Boomerang, to create a fun memory for social media.
9.) Again, if you're a social media fan think of a witty caption for your prom post(s).
10.) Think of what poses you'll want to do at your photo shoot. Here are some of mine for ideas...
Easter is one of my favorite holidays because of my religious beliefs, the fact that spring is finally here, spending time with family, and of course a day filled with fun food. I would love to hear about your springtime traditions as well.
• Whole Grain Waffles
• Strawberry Syrup
• Mixed Fruit
• Vanilla Yogurt + Apricot Sauce
• Pear Juice
In my opinion, holidays are meant for indulging - so basically it's a day of eating whatever you want. Between holidays however, that's a time I feel you should focus on your well-being and being mostly healthy. That's what we exchanged mostly healthy snacks this Easter.
• Sweet Beet Citrus Salad
• Sparkling Cider
• Green Bean Casserole
• Scalloped Potatoes
We combined the green bean casserole, cut down the leftover lamb chops, and added baked vegetables to create and entree casserole. The side is scalloped potatoes.
Thankful for... in 2015:
This year has been so rewarding, challenging, and fun. I'd love to share with you all just a few out of many things I am thankful for this year. (In no particular order)

Is it just me or does straight hair just feel really good to run your hands through? My hair is naturally wavy so I like to switch it up and straighten it for a cleaner look. Before picking this flat iron up, I regularly used a Vital Sassoon brand one. As my first flat iron, it was certainly not the greatest quality. I had been using it for 4+ years... in the winter especially, I like to straighten my hair every day. With my old one, I noticed my hair felt brittle. It would also take more than one time through my hair to get it straight, and it would still end up curling a bit during the day.
I love the Herstyler Forever quality! One time through and my hair was straight as a ruler. *silent cheers* No more of wasting more than half an hour trying to get my hair straight hahaha! My hair feels sleek and shiny yet not greasy or anything. Herstyler claims users can straighten their hair in half the time and effectively with equal heating of the ceramic plates. I never understood what the hubub was about ceramic so previously I just thought "meh, I'll just avoid the cost". It totally makes a difference.
I had the most amazing time with the most amazing friends ever last weekend at our party, and at the mall. WOOO any kind of shopping, food or not, seriously makes me high on life. Can anybody relate? ;)
So, let's get in to the haul!:
This is probably my staple store- everything is cute, actually useful, and normally good quality! When I visited they had buy two beauty items, get one free going on. One can never have enough beauty bags! I also love how the travel brush set matches the first makeup bag. Adorable! I'm planning on using the matching items for beauty and the outlier for a schnazzy pencil pouch at school.
